HNA joins open letter opposing the closure of US National Archives at San Francisco & Chicago

Community archivists and memory workers joined together in an open letter opposing the recent closures announced by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) for the U.S. National Archives located in San Francisco and Chicago. There is grave concern over the immanent loss of public access to these facilities, their archivists, and the removal of historic records to undeclared alternative locations.

The records housed in these repositories include records for Hawaii and other Pacific Island communities. The removal of these historical materials from our diaspora kin is an unjust loss that we oppose in solidarity with the families, students, and researchers preserving the diverse history of their communities.
