From the Richard Kekuni Blaisdell Collection of the Hawaiian National Archive:
Pictured below is a 2014 - 2015 Makahiki greeting card to Richard Kekuni Blaisdell from Joan Lander and Puhipau of Nā Maka o ka ‘Āina (“The Eyes of the Land”), an independent video production team that from 1974 has focused on the land and people of Hawai‘i and the Pacific. Nā Maka o ka ‘Āina exists to give voice and face to traditional and contemporary Hawaiian culture, history, language, art, music, environment, and the politics of independence and sovereignty. Kekuni counted these two activists among his allies and they clearly showed their aloha for him in this greeting.
Kekuni felt equally comfortable in academic, activist, and artistic aspects of the movement – whether writing academic papers on medical or political issues, or marching with activists, or supporting the cultural activities of his Hawaiian culture.
